Thankful Thursday: Anatomy of the Soul by Dr. Curt Thompson, MD

I'm currently reading "Anatomy of The Soul" by Curt Thompson, MD. I have never fully appreciated the intricate workings of the brain before this, and have never considered the wondrous ways God intended for the brain to work in tandem with all the rest of His creation. Most of all, I never seriously thought about loving God with all my mind.
This book made me see that loving God with all my mind means being mindful of Him, being conscious of His presence every moment, being filled by Him, communing and feeling felt by Him and responding to Him with both the left (logical) and right (emotional) parts of my brain. The book explains this point better and more deeply, and I can only be filled with awe at what the phrase means!
This came at a specific time when I was wondering how much of my present problem is my own fault, how I can be free of the unproductive patterns in my relationships, how I can feel the fullness and abundance of joy that I have in Christ. I know in my head that I have it, but feeling it is another thing. I even came to the point of praying that God change the chemical composition of my brain.
I believe that, once again, God came through for me in this book.
The author lays out in detail the physical composition and functions of the different parts of the brain. Then he  ties up this physical part with the spiritual side. He further reveals some finer aspects of God's character that continuously reaches out to us for deeper communion, deeper relating. Furthermore -- and this is the best part and the one I look forward to getting into more deeply -- he shows how we can reprogram our brains to relate in a new way, in a godly way, by changing our thinking patterns.
This is an excellent, very helpful book. One I will highly recommend for anyone who wants to go deeper into relationships that mirror how God relates with us. And for anyone who works with people who are trying to make sense of their relationship difficulties and want to genuinely make a change for the better.
I'm thankful for Tyndale Blog Network which allowed me to get this book for free in exchange for an objective (not necessarily positive) review. I know that even as I hope to be of some help to others who might need to read this book or need an honest review to know whether they should get it, for me this book has already been such a GREAT help.
Most of all, I'm thankful for my God and Creator, who created my inmost being, because my brain works!

Hi Jo,

This sounds like an interesting book. It is indeed not easy to understand how the brain works. We have a great Creator! And He cares for us. I am learning too the importance of letting God and His Words to renew my mind always and fight against wrong thinking patterns. Thanks for your visit. Take care and have a blessed weekend!

Warm regards,
Nancie
